A new toolkit compiled by The Home Office for professionals working with children and young people in the UK providing information, advice and guidance about key legislation that can be called upon to disrupt the criminal and sexual exploitation of children and young people.

The guide includes a set of definitions, best practice on information sharing with statutory organisations and other public sector organisations and on multi-agency working.

"Numbing the Pain: Survivors' voices of childhood sexual abuse and addiction" One in Four Report

One in Four, a charity for survivors of sexual violence and abuse, has released a report about childhood sexual abuse and addiction. Findings from the report, based on personal accounts by survivors, include:

  • drugs and alcohol were used by some survivors as a means of regulating their emotions

  • addiction services rarely made the link between substance use and the trauma caused by childhood sexual abuse.

Recommendations include: train staff in addiction services to respond to disclosure; establish a process for supporting survivors and create links between local addiction services and survivor support agencies.
