Create the Debate UK Parliament Resource

A resource created by the UK Parliament Education Service for students to learn debating skills and processes that are used in the UK House of Commons.

The resource is designed to help students to form opinions, justify their viewpoints, learn about the importance of playing “Devil’s Advocate” and take part in the democratic decision-making process.

The resource can be used in Key Stage 3 and 4 Citizenship, PSHE, English and History lessons or by an after-school Debating Club.

UK Parliament Teacher Resources and Lesson Plans for PSHE and Citizenship Lessons:

The UK Parliament Education team has produced a wide variety of resources and lesson plans which can be used by teachers in PSHE and Citizenship lessons to help students to learn about the role that Parliament plays in our day-to-day-lives, as well as to learn about the importance of voting and being an active British citizen. Resources include the “Discover the UK Parliament” booklet for Key Stages 1 and 2 and the “Get to Know your UK Parliament” booklet for Key Stage 3.

Plugged In: Social Action on Social Media Demos Report

A report by the think-tank Demos exploring the positive and meaningful contribution that young people make towards social action through use of social media networking platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The report finds that 64% of young people believe that social media platforms are an essential part of achieving social change and that young women are more likely to use social media platforms to campaign on issues important to them than young men.
