This workshop aims to promote and support staff – TA’s, Teachers and SENCO/Pastoral staff.

- The signs and traits to look out for.
- How to best support individuals in the class room/school.
- How to avoid causing additional stress to ASDpupils,
- Activities to introduce and integrate into lessons, break/lunch time and the daily school routine.
This short workshop has been written to support children and young people with autism and the staff who support them in a school environment
We begin by sharing ideas in pairs about ASD, what it is, what is isn’t and how pupils can be identified and
We then share ideas as a group, as to current strategies, tools and experiences already used.
As we continue through the day we work through dilemmas and stresses caused by a school environment that could be causes of stress for those on the ASD spectrum and those with sensory processing difficulties.
We explore different activities, strategies and tools that could be incorporated and integrated into the school day.
Social stories, routine tasks and timetabling are discussed in depth with some time for practical paired activities
Lots of literature, further reading and handouts re activities shared throughout the day.
Course duration: 6 hours – either intensive day session or delivered on twilight or staff development days.
